Labrador Retrievers
One of the most all-time popular breed of dogs, the Labrador Retriever is playful, loving to people and hardworking. The Labrador is one of your most loyal companions, and is highly respected for his prowess at many jobs: as a guide for the disabled, a search-and-rescue dog, and for narcotics detection.
Labrador Retrievers respond well to praise and positive attention, and are considerably “food and fun” oriented. These dogs are as well loyal and great with little children. They may be used in shows. With training, the Lab is one of the most dependable, obedient and multi-talented breeds in the world.
Usually a large dog, Labrador Retrievers’ coats are short and smooth, and they possess a straight, powerful tail often likened to that of an otter.
The English bred lab comes from English bred stock. Their general appearance is different. The English bred labs are heavier, thicker and blockier. The American bred Lab comes from American bred stock and is tall and lanky.
Labs are either black, yellow, or chocolate in color. They have webbed toes, which makes the breed an excellent swimming dog.
Labrador Retrievers are energetic dogs, delighted to work and play hard. They need to be taken on a daily, brisk, long walk, jog or run alongside you when you bicycle. Labs are big eaters and need regular exercise and moderate rations to avoid a tendency to become overweight.
The smooth, short-haired, double coat is easy to groom. Comb and brush regularly with a firm, bristle brush, paying attention to the undercoat. Bathe or dry shampoo only when necessary. These dogs are average shedders.
If you are looking for a great family dogs and canine companions, the labrador with it’s gentle, loving disposition is a wonderful choice!
