Checking The Labels On Pet Food

Published by ibellamy under Uncategorized Edit This

Most pet owners will probably find the one pet food that works best for their pet, and pretty much stick to that food. But if you happen to be shopping around for a new pet food for your dog (or cat), there are a couple of things to keep in mind. Labels do not always say what is really in that can or bag. What I mean by that remark is that the ingredients may seem like they are listed in order of which is contained the most in the pet food, say tuna, for example. But that is not necessarily the case. The ingredients are actually listed in decreasing order according to their weight. There may actually be an ingredient that weighs more than the tuna, say wheat, but manufacturers of the pet food may not want to list wheat as the first ingredient. So they will separate that wheat into three categories of germ, middlings and bran, with each category now weighing less than the tuna. Thus you will see tuna listed first, then the three separate wheat ingredients. So someone may think that tuna is the main ingredient since it is listed first, but it is actually more wheat based than tuna based.

Also, you might want to check that the food you are thinking of buying for your pet has been tested according to feeding protocols approved by the Association of American Feed Control Officials. And it never hurts to ask your friendly veterinarian for advice either!

Pet Botanics Omega Treats For Dogs….A “My Dogs” Review

Pet Botanics Omega Treats For Dogs

My dogs were recently surprised to receive some mail the other day– samples of Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Treats! Now my doggies do fully understand that they are the smartest, handsomest/prettiest, most well-behaved dogs in the world, and therefore do have the responsibilities that go along with these attributes, such as being recruited to review dog-related products so as to determine their value (or lack of ) to their companions worldwide.

So right away my dogs accepted their call to duty, and were ready to get started with their evaluations of the Pet Botanics Omega Treats. They quickly agreed that I could first check out the list of ingredients to determine they met with my dogs high standards (after all, the best dogs in the world deserve the best in nutrition, don’t you agree?). I was happy to see that these dog treats have all good things like Omega 3, 6 Fatty Acids, and Antioxidants, all of which are good for a dog’s health, and help add shine to dogs coats. And as full of vitamins and proteins as these dog treats are, they are also low in fat (which is an important consideration to dogs watching their weight, as mine all are.).

So we were ready to go to step two of the evaluation–the all important taste test! As my dogs oversaw my opening of a package of the treats, the aroma reached their wiggling noses, and they excitedly (and loudly) requested I hurry up, which I did. Soon all dogs were sitting in their official test tasting stances, and the treats were duly handed out. I waited for their canine reviews patiently. Which took about all of 3 seconds. Paws left the floor and reached up to me and the bag of the Omega Treats in my hand. A parade of wagging tails and dog twirls ensued in the kitchen, accompanied by barks of approval from every one of my dogs.

Because my dogs had been so cooperative and willing to accept this product review, I could not help but give them each a second treat–after all, each Pet Botanics Omega Treat has less than 9 calories. And what taste test can be accurate without a second taste after all?

As a final determination of each one of my dogs approval, I asked each one for their own opinion–and six appreciative doggy kisses later, I had them. It was unanimous–all six of my dogs wholeheartedly approved of Pet Botanics Healthy Omega Treats. And so did I. What doggie mommy doesn’t like feeding her pets treats that are not only healthy and well balanced, but also delight their taste buds and tummies?

My dogs sampled the chicken flavor for their product review. But theses dog treats also come in Salmon, Duck and Tuna flavors. All flavors are hand rolled multi-layered treats, made with easily digestible proteins, and low in fat and calories.

After their arduous task of taste testing and reviewing, my wonderful pups all took a well-deserved nap, assured and satisfied that their 4-legged friends everywhere could enjoy these tasty dog treats. I am such a proud doggy mommy!

Dog Hair Everywhere!

dog hairWe are going through a terrible hair shedding problem at our house. I am brushing and grooming our dogs, but still cannot keep up with the dog hair around the house. So I am very interested in getting any reviews/comments about the Furminator. Have you used it? Did you find it to work well? Was/is it worth the money?

I did read a review on dogster.com about the Furminator, and I am happy to report it was all good. This grooming tool for dogs apparently did what it says it will do and then some. It got rid of old hair (hurrah!) and gets out mats. I was most impressed to read that one user of the Furminator successfully brushed out a “humongous ball of hair” in 3 minutes.

So I am more than likely going to be trying out this grooming tool soon, but thought I’d put out a request for any pros and/or cons from other pet owners that may have used it before.

Anyone?
